This week (4-10 November), we are highlighting the importance of occupational therapy as we celebrate OT Week 2024!

Every day, occupational therapists across the UK make seemingly small changes that have a big impact on the lives of the people they support and the profession. The Royal College of Occupational Therapists's (RCOT) campaign 'Small Change, Big Impact' celebrates these small changes and champions the powerful impact achieved.

At Treloar’s, the OT Team has been sharing some of their examples with each other—these have included:

- placing black vinyl over a desk to enable a student with a visual impairment to see items more clearly

- attaching sensory and fidget toys to a loop on a student’s tray to stop them throwing these items onto the floor and out of reach. This has enabled the student to play and entertain themselves more independently

- placing raised coloured stickers onto a hoist controller so the student is able to operate the controller themselves. This means that the student now only needs one person to assist them with care which has enabled them to feel more independent and less reliant on others
