Meet Elaine Trim, Treloar's Accounts Assistant who, besides supporting the Finance department every day, has also been fundraising to support children and young people at Treloar's.
"In January 2022, in a bid to do more exercise and get fitter, I took on a challenge to walk 1500 miles in 2022 to raise much needed funds for Treloar’s and Guide Dogs UK. I have chosen two charities to support: Treloar's, where the students are truly inspirational and can't is not a word in their vocabulary; and I am also supporting Guide Dogs as being severely visually impaired, it is a charity close to my heart. They help many blind and visually impaired adults and children like myself retain their independence at work, at home and when out and about and enable them to lead a fulfilling and happy life."
Elaine completed her 1500 miles on 20 October 2022 and her total for the year ended up being over 1750 miles, which is just over 2800 km. Elaine has thoroughly enjoyed doing it and, despite a couple of minor injuries and niggles, she plans to keep on walking.
"My husband and I have seen some beautiful stunning places travelling around the UK in our campervan: we’ve experienced snow, torrential downpours, hail, baking hot sunshine and everything in between. We’ve got covered in mud, slipped in various animal droppings, been chased by sheep and goats, been pooed on by more than one seagull (I have absolutely no idea why this is considered good luck?!), a horse tried to eat my backpack and we’ve been stalked closely by a not very happy looking bull as we crossed his field. We’ve sampled and enjoyed lots of yummy local foods around the country and downed a fair few pints of cold cider (usually after a full day of walking). We have loved every minute, even when our feet and knees felt like they could not walk another step and are looking forward to doing more, with our first trip abroad in our campervan this year."
Elaine says she appreciates that finances are tight for many at the moment but charities are also struggling as they have had a massive drop in donations: firstly, due to Covid and now due to increased living costs, but they desperately need the funds in order to continue with the fantastic job they do to help those less fortunate than us.
"If you are able to take a few minutes and read my Fundraising page and spare a few pennies or pounds, I know it will be much appreciated by the charities I am supporting. A BIG thank you to many of you who have continued to encourage me and to those who have donated already."

Treloar’s is so much more than just a school and college. We are a charity; we deliver outstanding nursing care, therapy, independence training and education to around 170 disabled children and young people aged 4-25. Every day we are preparing young people to live as independently as possible and reach their future aspirations. But we wouldn't be able to do so without our fantastic staff.
