Since arriving at Treloar College, Hannah’s life has turned around. After attending in a mainstream school which wasn't right for her, Hannah is thriving at Treloar's. She is currently undertaking a Supported Internship. Two days a week she works in the community supporting Dementia Friendly Alton.
Hannah has cerebral palsy. She joined Treloar’s as John and now she is Hannah, which has been a sensitive topic for her for quite a while, but she finally feels comfortable in her skin and who she is, and she is thriving as Hannah.
“Before Treloar’s I was at mainstream school, it wasn’t right for me. In my past I thought I was worthless. No one liked me, but I came here and my life changed around and it helped me come out as a trans person.”
“I have been at Treloar’s for three years and it has been amazing. They have helped me find my identity and be more independent with my life, for example making my own meals and doing my laundry.”
“The facilities are really good. I have had loads of physio to support my walking, and speech and language therapy to help me communicate better. I have had lots of other opportunities and have done things like sailing, rock climbing and skiing. I attend Boccia, Archery and Wheelchair dancing and karaoke club during the week.”
Hannah is one of our supported internship students, doing this programme, she’s has really flourished. She’s at college two days week where she has Maths and English lessons as well as personal and social development. She goes out to work two days a week, working for a local care home as an activity coordinator for people with dementia. “They love having her, she’s running activities, it’s brilliant.” Hazel – Assistant Head of College

One of Hannah’s huge passions at Treloar’s is the Let Me In project. Let Me In is a student-led business that offers accessibility audits to local business premises to help them improve access and improve employment opportunities for disabled people.
Hannah was one of the students who came up with the idea for the project in a business skills class. The big idea was all about making our community more accessible. As the project has grown in scope, Hannah’s confidence has grown. With so much engagement from our local community and local businesses who want to work with us to improve accessibility and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, Hannah’s had opportunities to visit community facilities, attractions, offices and workplaces and conduct accessibility assessments.
