Golf champion gives a motivational talk for students

Community

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has been working alongside Treloar’s, supporting our Supported Internships and the Employability and Independence cohort of students since 2019.

DWP school and college advisors attend and run free employment, work-based sessions at Treloar’s every year (summer term 6-8 sessions). These sessions cover topics such as benefits of working and benefits advice, skills and qualities needed for different job roles, CVs, interview preparation, mock interviews, self-employment, talks from external speakers: life stories, living and working with disabilities, challenges and discrimination faced, overcoming and succeeding.

In the last session in May, the guest speaker was Billy McCallister, an international blind golf champion, who talked about his journey after losing his sight, overcoming life challenges and becoming a motivational disability speaker.
